Divisions by Kyell Gold

Divisions is another little step into the life of tiger Dev and fox Lee. They are now a couple, together in front of their respective families and the public. Dev's football team is backing him, new friends are helping them settle into the life of a committed couple and some old friends are creating troubles. This new installment in a series that I loved since book 1 is confirming my idea that this is a very ordinary love story, a nice romance, with that just touch of sexy to make it good, about anthropomorphic characters, but that is like saying the guy had black hair and blue eyes, or the girl had long hair and brown eyes, only that here you have a guy with long stripes and big paws or the other guy with a fluffy tail...

It's also about football, and for me who is not an expert, the feeling is that Kyell Gold knows about the stuff, and so, if you are a fan of that sport, I suppose this is definitely a book you wanted to read; from my external point of view, I suppose there are more men fan of the sport than women, so I would say this is quite a manly romance, but hands up, I'm pretty sure there are also women who love the sport (and the players!).

Other than football the main theme is Lee's struggle with his mother, who has joined an ultra-conservative group that is supposedly helping the families remained united when a kid comes out. Unfortunately the group is moistly trying to "pray out" the gayness from the kid, often with tragic outcomes. Even if in an anthropomorphic setting, unfortunately this side of the story rang very true, and it's saddening to think that this is really happening somewhere, especially in small town where the abused kid (because this is abusing) has no one else helping him out of that trap.

Kyell Gold started the book advising the readers that, once he finished the first draft of the story, it was too long to fit only 1 book, and so he split it into two separate novels. So you will reach the end knowing that not everything will be wrapped up here, but also with the good news that soon enough you will have the chance to spend another pleasant day reading about Dev and Lee.

Great book, but obviously part 1 of 2

Right before Divisions came out, I read the two prequels, Out of Position and Isolation Play. Divisions picks up right where it needs to, and while I'm sure people can enjoy it the book without having read the previous two, I wouldn't recommend it.

Divisions, like the others, is not a story about football, but about the homosexual relationship of a football player and his boyfriend. I gave this book 4/5 stars because I didn't enjoy the book like I did the previous two, but that's mostly because the book ends right in the middle of things, and Kyell himself admits that he basically split one draft into two books. That aside....

The book is everything that I expect from Kyell Gold: the characters are believable, endearing, and dynamic. While I can't say Kyell has a distinct writing style, he does have a crisp, clean, mature style that will not annoy or draw attention to itself.

Overall, I recommend this book and cannot wait for the sequel. I'll probably reread the series again due to how it progresses from one book to another, and I believe that to appreciate the book the most, you have to start the relationship over to understand it properly.

A-to the-Furry mazing

I've been following the series since I first discovered kyell gold. This book, in my opinion, takes the series to a whole new personal level. Dealing with issues that a Coupple would face, not just professional footballers. Fights, undertones and secrets. It's a great read, and I find it impossible to put down once I've started, even after I've already read it. If you've read any of the books you'd know as well as I do that you are going to read it anyway. No matter what I say. It's brilliant, but if you are just coming into the series, start at the start. Because it's beautiful.

I read this book on Jackie Robinson expecting it to be about baseball and got a history lesson on civil rights as well. John Wilson combines his two passions in life, Baseball and History. Easy to read with great stories both on and off the field. Highly recommended.

Excellent technical reference

This is a truly unique book. It brings a strong technical and industrial perspective to an ancient practice: composting organic waste. Filled with practical examples of large-scale composting systems from municipalities and industrial facilities, Haug provides a wealth of information for anyone seeking to implement composting on an large scale.

One of the things I really appreciate about Haug's style and presentation is how he does not take basic theoretical matters for granted. For example, he spends an entire chapter (3) on the fundamentals of thermodynamics, including one of the clearest explanations of the Second Law of Thermodynamics I've ever read. As a teacher, I am a firm believer in the value of review: even for those who know these basic principles well, there is merit in explaining them over especially when placed in a context (in this case, aerobic decomposition of organic matter) that is different from what one might encounter in a typical basic chemistry text.

Data analytics is the science of examining raw data with the purpose of drawing conclusions about that information. Data analytics is used in many industries to allow companies and organization to make better business decisions and in the sciences to verify or disprove existing models or theories. Spend the money for a better text!

This book is not worth it! "Basic" would be an upgrade to this effort. The subject matter is inadequately explored, the math very uneven in its academic level (way more sophisticated than is required to obtain an overview of analytics), and the text is not helpful for someone trying to grasp the scope and purpose of analytics. Spend the money for a better text!
