The best textbook on advertising history

For anyone interested in advertising history, this is without any doubt the best textbook available. The history of advertising - a young and promising discipline - is covered from different perspectives and it's clear the authors are not biased. 'Social Communication' not only gives an overview of the most important writings on advertising history, but also shows possible directions for new research.

Interesting, informative, and accessible...

but what's with all the typos? There are numerous misspellings, misuses of homonyms, dropped letters and spaces, etc. And I don't mean a couple of them, either--there are sections that have an error every few pages--sometimes more than one on a page. For me, it's distracting. But if such things don't bother you--add another star to my four-star review, because otherwise, it's a great book.

In chapters that take up writers as diverse as Hiroshima poets, Tokyo critics, and Nagasaki women novelists, he explores the implications of these works for critical, literary, and cultural theory.

Treat summarizes the Japanese contribution to such ongoing international debates as the crisis of modern ethics, the relationship of experience to memory, and the possibility of writing history. This Japanese perspective, Treat shows, both confirms and amends many of the assertions made in the West on the shift that the death camps and nuclear weapons have jointly signaled for the modern world and for the future.

Great Book! Compelling & Inspiring!

Its great to have an ounce of truth in a world used to pounds of lies and distortions :)! I read this book in one day after hearing my colleague speak at a YouthSpark event. The reason I was so compelled to read the book so quickly was due to the passionate energy and emotional depth I felt from the author when I heard her speaking about her life story. Growing up We all have felt awkward, alone, ugly, not cool enough, not enough money, etc things that make us feel inadequate but messages like the ones conveyed through the trials and tribulations of Dorsey Jones help us collectively heal as a community from the scars of our own childhoods. I hope we all have the courage, as Dorsey did in writing this book, to one day share our collective pain from the past so that we can stop it from happening presently and make collective efforts to prevent its future occurrence.

This book is truly a testimony of how awesome God is... I read this book in one day... I laughed, I cried, I prayed... Unfortunately this story is way too familiar for so many of us today but God!!! He allowed, no He knew Dorsey before she was formed in her mothers womb and He set her aside for this... She was anointed for this...she is Romans 8:28... All things work together for good, for those who love God and are called according to His purpose!!!! The way He births ministry from our pain...this story could have ended in so many different ways...but I'm so glad and so blessed to know that Dorsey gives God all the glory!!!!! If you haven't read it, you must, then bless someone with a copy...our men/boys need to read this story... Child exploitation/ molestation needs to end...it is damaging our families, it doesn't just end with the victim.... God bless you Dorsey...your being stretched beyond measure is truly reaching the masses!!!! Won't He do it!!! ( sorry so long, I just was truly blessed)....by RegisteredNurse....

Amazing Read!

We all have a story to tell but yet we don't all have what it takes to tell that story. The courage and strength that Dorsey possess has enabled her to do just that, tell her story and I say thank you! Thank you for sharing, Thank you for your angels, and most of all I thank God for keeping his arms around you throughout your journey. Your story will give those that don't have the will to continue to do just that. I started reading not thinking I was going to gain anything other than getting to know you just a little bit better but needless to say that was not true. My admiration for you has grown so much more. Although my story differs quite differently and my struggle within is different we are still the same, we long for a love that to us we never thought existed. Your story has been cathartic for me and I am sure those that have read and will read will feel the same. This Book is a short but powerful read. All readers will be able to relate in some way or other. Keep doing what you do. Your best is yet to come!

Image size lets it down

I was disappointed in this book. Many of the sections are well written but the images are generally far too small to show the dermatoscopic features properly. Good large images were a real selling point for the first edition of this book. Nonetheless the contributing authors are all the experts in this field and hence the factual content is good. It would have been useful to have had larger versions of the images available with an online access option as many other texts offer nowadays.

Kindle version photo quality sucks

This is for the kindle edition: a difficult review to make because I feel like the book itself is very good but the photos are not very good at all; I'm not sure if the quality of the photos is better with the hardcover version; I returned the kindle version right away without reading it because the photo quality was so poor; I'm going to reorder the hardcover version and hopefully the photos will be better. It seems like a quick read; not sure why the book is so expensive but it does seem to be thorough. Looking forward to the hardcover version and will keep you updated about it.
