I own the 1972 5th edition of this book, which is approx 300 pages. The older edition is a thorough, practical coverage of the mathematics of finance with many real-world examples.

Contains a very thorough chapter on the mathematics of bonds. Anyone with an interest in finance and a serious aptitude for algebra would enjoy this book.

Instruction by Question

R. P. Burn is an amazing writer for mathematical textbooks.
This book follows Burn's typical format; therefore, this text is little more than a collection of (very) brief introductions to terminology and concepts, followed by a long list of questions for each chapter. Finally, each chapter has an answer section.
The questions asked typically very short, and at first are very simple and intuitively obvious. As each chapter progresses, however, the questions begin to build from prior questions already answered and express more and more complex concepts.
Typically, by the time a chapter has been completed, the reader will have completed one or more complicated proofs typically found in other texts on the same subject-- small bite by small bite at a time.

An excellent book for learning seduction and human interaction skills

This book far exceeded all my expectations. The author is obviously an expert in NLP and human behaviour, and has created a book you can learn from, not just read. I had previously bought several Pick Up Artist books from the web but all they gave you were lines you had to learn off by heart, and were only useful in bars. But the Master Seducer's Handbook covers the whole subject of seduction from how women think and how you can improve your conversation and flirting skills, right through to some great language techniques to get things happening for you. The book is extremely well written and fun to read, and doesn't preach at you or treat you like an idiot. Also the book is extremely respectful of women, which is a nice change from the typical seduction books. Plus, the chapters have practise drills that really improve your skills and your confidence. I had only read a third of the book before I found I couldn't wait to go out meeting girls.One thing you'll love about the book is how you can read the same chapter over and over again and learn new things each time. My advice is to any man is to buy this book right now. You're going to learn so much about how to charm and win women, and also how to persuade and influence all kinds of people.

A great book for learning how to get a girlfriend easily

The writer suggests that the easiest way to seduce women is to be the sort of man that women love to be seduced by. And that's exactly what he teaches in his book. A lot of it is devoted to how to develop the seductive language that women love to listen to, as well as how to use your body language and your voice and eye contact to get girls fascinated with you. What a change from the rubbish chat up lines the usual PUA books teach.

The book is written with an easy to understand set of rules. It has practical exercises to perform daily and teaches you how women think, act, and react to words, actions, and emotions... and how to make them feel and act the way you want.

Having now tried out some of the techniques, it looks as though it will not only help with women but will also help with dealing with all sorts of people in many different situations; business deals, selling, and networking with new contacts. Since reading it, I have tried it in a few different situations and found it has helped me develop relationships quickly and easily.

If you really want your confidence to soar and get the girl (s), you have always believed you deserve, you owe it to yourself to buy this book.

About the Author
George C. Herring is Alumni Professor of history at the University of Kentucky. He received his Ph.D. in History from the University of Virginia and taught at Ohio University before moving to the University of Kentucky. He is the author of numerous books, articles, and essays, including The Secret Diplomacy of the Vietnam War: The Negotiating Volumes of the Pentagon Papers (1983) and LBJ and Vietnam: A Different Kind of War (1994). He served as editor of the scholarly journal Diplomatic History from 1982 to 1986 and was President of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations in 1990. In 1991, he served as Visiting Fulbright Scholar at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand and from 1993 to 1994, he was Visiting Professor of History at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point.

Remains a Classic

This book remains the best synthesis for understanding the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. Since its original edition in the late 1970s, the book has remained the standard starting part for anyone wanting to the understand the complexities of what American policymakers thought and did in Vietnam. Over the years, Herring increasingly has added in the Vietnamese side of the equation as the materials from the NVA and VC became available. His easily accessible writing style makes the book one that can be read by students as well as scholars on the matters related to war. It will continue to be one that people use in classrooms, building on its great success over nearly forty years. It is quite a testament to the author for being able to write the book that has the staying power of this one.

Lucid, Panoramic, Thorough, and Short

Lucid; panoramic; and not overly long. His research is prodigious; best footnotes I've seen in a long time; and he minces no words when it's time to discuss Nixon and Kissinger. In fact, Herring minces no words when he discusses all our presidents from Truman through Carter. But perhaps his sharpest insights are reserved for Ho Chi Minh and his successor Le Duan, especially the latter. Altogether the best short history of the Vietnam Wars I've read. Herring is both scholarly and opinionated -- and clearly labels each -- and his bibliography provides enough specialized reading for a lifetime. The most recent edition of the book takes advantage of recently opened archives and current scholarly research; and Professor Herring's opinions clearly have not mellowed with age -- a good thing. He even manages some rare bits of humor, here and there, in a book otherwise focused on our worst American tragedy since our Civil War.

A really nice and interesting read

Even if the book is easy to read it doesn't mean it is plain. It is interesting and it has a good structure. Some books like this end up as dry catalogues; this one does not. It gave me ideas. It sent me to the bookshelf to check up details. ("Is that really so. Never thought about it.") And if you don't need it, but have interests in the topical neighbourhood; just buy it. It's nice to read in when you are tired of equations or algorithms in chemistry. Or if you end in a good chair with a cold and wants to do something useful in chemistry, which is not too strenuous.

If only more Christians sought God as authentically and deeply as Kierkegaard did. The prayers that are prayed here are not meant to impress the reader or to demonstrate theological insights(though they most assuredly do), but are simply the product of a man who wanted nothing other than to know and please God.

When philosophers pray like children

S�ren Kierkegaard is widely regarded as the father of existentialism, and it is encouraging to show the world that you can be a believer in the Lord while you are still highly philosophical. In this book, Kierkegaard converses with the Lord about His attributes, God's greatness versus our nothingness, and how our nothingness is something we should pray to feel, not to despair over it, but rather to feel the more powerfully the greatness of His goodness. I love his genuine sense of God's fatherhood and how completely real it is in His own prayers.
